Building a Legacy: Plain Jane Garage
During our recent travels, we had the pleasure of reconnecting with an old friend from our early Seager days, Wesley Francis. Those familiar with Seager's history might remember when Wesley and our co-founder, Elliott, worked together at Almond Surfboards. These days, Wesley's back in his hometown of Virginia Beach, where he's channeled his passion for motorcycles into a custom chopper business called Plain Jane Garage.
Wesley's entrepreneurial spirit led him to transform his grandfather's old car upholstery shop into a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts. We spent some time catching up with Wesley, delving into his inspirations and aspirations for Plain Jane Garage.
"My dad got us on dirt bikes early, and I think just as a young boy, you get obsessed with that," Wesley recalled. "Motorcycles are cool, and then in high school, the choppers came around. It was just the coolest thing I’d ever seen, so I just got obsessed with that and couldn't stop thinking about it."
"I really like the problem-solving and self-expression. It's such a creative outlet, a way to be creative and solve a problem in a real, physical way." -Wesley Francis
One thing Wesley knows for sure: there's no greater reward than seeing his creations come to life. "That first start-up is always scary," he shared. "It’s rewarding, and sometimes super not rewarding. But once you finally get it on the road and everything’s working right, and you’re just blasting down the road, it’s such a good feeling."
To experience the true essence of Plain Jane Garage, we took their custom choppers for a spin across the iconic Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Our ride took us through the scenic farm roads of the Eastern Shore, where we indulged in fresh oysters and Coors Banquets. It was the perfect blend of good company, great food, and the open road—a true testament to the passion and craftsmanship that Wesley pours into Plain Jane Garage.
